Religious Education

Religious Education is a daily part of the timetable in each class. The major source of content for each class program is the Guidelines for Religious Education as adopted by the Archdiocese of Melbourne. The course content covers areas such as Scripture, the Sacraments, God the Father, Son and Spirit. The Creed, Prayer etc. Sacramental programs are introduced in Year 3 - Reconciliation Year 4 - First Eucharist and Year 6 - Confirmation.

Class programs also work in closely with the seasons of the Church and special Feast days. 

THE PURPOSE OF THE GUIDELINES

The Guidelines for Religious Education are to be used:

-           as a source and basis of Religious Education for young people;
-           in planning and co-ordinating religious education programs;
-           as part of the continuing reflection on the nature and purpose of Religious           Education;
-           as part of the Church’s contribution and service to each person’s integrated education and development. 

THE CONTEXT OF THE GUIDELINES

 The Guidelines for religious Education are most effectively used in social and learning contexts which feature:

 -          understanding of and respect for the diversity of cultural and religious traditions of students and their families;
-           an awareness of and responsiveness to the signs of the times;
-           an awareness of and responsiveness to the ways in which the Church is concerned at all times to meet the need of people;
-           students experiencing, understanding, celebrating and integrating their faith in ways suited to their age and development.
-           various liturgical celebrations which help students understand, appreciate and integrate their life experiences;
-           opportunities for prayer and reflection in implicit and explicit ways;
